The 4-H Geospatial Sciences Program is a statewide youth development initiative to train
extension staff and leaders to use and apply the technology of the Global Positioning System
(GPS), Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and remote sensing to community problem
solving. The CALS/CCE Summer Intern will work at CCE Genesee County to develop a model
program connecting 4-H geospatial sciences with a Genesee County Science, Technology,
Engineering and Math (STEM) Camp. Materials, curriculum and equipment will be developed
for use in counties statewide.
The student intern’s role and responsibilities:
Assist coordination of a pilot program in Geospatial Sciences – Remote Sensing as part of a
Summer Genesee County STEM Science Camp.
Attend Genesee STEM Science Camp to help coordinate the Geospatial Sciences portions of
the program.
Build interactive geospatial science displays that can be easily implemented at county fair(s)
and other community events.
Implement one or more youth community mapping projects in Genesee County.
Incorporate remote sensing into an Invasive Species mapping project in Genesee and/or
neighboring county(s).
