Precision Agriculture Research Intern

The New York Corn & Soybean Growers Association (NYCSGA) is conducting high-level precision agriculture research across New York State.  Research includes topics such as variable rate seeding, variable rate fertilizer, optimal nitrogen rates, and more.  Trials are being developed at the farm scale in partnership with growers throughout the state.

NYCSGA is seeking an undergraduate intern with:

  • On-farm experience and knowledge of modern cropping technologies
  • Interest in crop research
  • Self-directed with a high-level of personal responsibility
  • Access to a personal vehicle
  • Working knowledge of windows, office, and general computing applications
  • Knowledge of precision agriculture computer systems a plus, but not required

The internship would require approximately 30 hours/week (depending on weather) from the end of May through August and include travel to participating farms throughout NYS.  Position may also require some heavy lifting (up to 50 lbs).

Internship responsibilities would include:

  • Assisting with on farm experiment design
  • Meeting with farms to discuss research goals
  • Field scouting and stand counts throughout the growing season
  • Planting , application, and harvest data collection from machinery displays

Intern will work under the guidance of the NYCSGA Research Associate to complete the goals of the internship as well as receive training in the areas of precision agriculture, data analysis, and modern agriculture technology.

Compensation:

Intern would receive $10/hr plus reimbursement of travel expenses up to $1500.
